Ireland in Pictures
In May 2015, my wife, my sister and I, took a 3 week road trip in Ireland. This was part of a larger trip for my wife and I as we were traveling for four months throughout Europe and the UK. Of the ten countries we visited, Ireland stole a special chamber of our hearts, and a major chunk of our camera SD card space.
Ireland is simply a treasure that really is best summed up in photos.
We started our trip in Dun Laoghaire, a small town near Dublin, headed up through Northern Ireland to Portstewart and the famous Giant’s Causeway, then around the West Coast of Ireland and out on to the Dingle Peninsula, onward to Ballinskelligs and then to Cork before continuing back to Dun Laoghaire and Dublin. Our days average about 2-3 hours of driving but it would take us 8-12 hours to complete as the stops and the people were too enchanting to rush. The windy roads bring something new with every turn – ocean views, mountains, rolling fields, oncoming traffic, ancient dwellings, sheep and cows sauntering across the road to the next field.
With our days packed with adventures big and small we took advantage of the 16+ hours of daylight and my sister, Mel’s, request to see as much as possible. The three of us walked inside a monastery from the 10th century, climbed in a castle from the 14th century, hiked cliff shores, drank Guinness at Corrigan’s Bar, slept in a castle, and listened to live Irish music in a pub to name only a handful of amazing things to see and do in Ireland.
But perhaps our biggest highlight, and I think all three of us would agree, was farting in the car. No, not that – it was the people. Wonderfully friendly, generous, funny and welcoming – that would be the Irish saying I would write on the souvenir mug.
